IS THIS JOURNALING? - by Calvin

Howard, he's my spiritual director, knows I'm not wild about the spiritual discipline of journaling.  No way am I interested in writing down my feelings and experiences of the day.  But I'm wondering if this blog might help me score points with Howard as a spiritual discipline.

I do write little notes whenever God tells me something or when I read something that shakes me up.  Sometimes I read these notes to Lisa because she's my wife.  If I'm really shook up, I read them to Howard too.  But honestly, this blog may be as close as I'll ever get to the spiritual discipline of journaling.

I remember a note from the time when God spoke through my lips during evening prayer.  I started over but he said the same words again, "Stop looking outside you but look inside because that's where I AM."  I needed Howard's help with that one.  He pointed me to John chapter 14 where Jesus tells us how much he wants to be with us.

It's good to remember that the Father and the Son dwell inside us.  Oh yeah, the Holy Spirit comes along with the deal.  Whatever chaos might be brewing outside, the Prince of Peace dwells within.  Our job is to spend time with him and receive his peace in quiet and stillness.

At His Mercy,

Calvin

Calvin, Writing notes...blogging...sounds like journaling to me. Simply "gathering the fragments so nothing is wasted" is the purpose of journaling, blogging, or writing little notes. Our Lord is saying and doing so much if we don't capture it through these means, too much of His grace is wasted on us. Write on!
