Living for God

I met a man last weekend at a retreat where Lisa and I were speaking.  During the break he handed me a photocopied page of quotes about relationships. He said they reminded him of me. They really did resonate with me so he had clearly tapped into something.

There was one quote that captured my thoughts all afternoon. Artist Vincent Van Gogh said, "There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people." The would be missionary turned artist seemed to grasp the tension between the beauty and the strain of loving people.

Jesus loves people. All people of all sorts. He befriended prostitutes, drunkards and yes even tax collectors. Oh my! Jesus is the greatest artist. Love for all people declares the glory of God just like Van Gogh's Starry Night painting of the heavens. Now that's great art. Wanna grab a paint brush?
