PRESENCE OF HEART - By Calvin Wulf
SPIRITUAL LIFE

A prayer slipped from my lips that took away my breath, "Lord Jesus, quiet my mind so that I may be present with you in my heart." It was a spiritual reflex more than rational thought. My request came from a longing deep within. Intimacy called to intimacy as deep calls to deep.
I drifted into my prayer where I met with Jesus. I knew the love and the presence of Christ right there in my heart. In this holy place, I entered into communion, even union, with the one who is and was and is to come. Would you say no to distractions and remain present in Christ?

I find such moments beyond description, even though you did so beautifully, Calvin!
They are too infrequent for me, yet they come as grace at moments when I least expect and most need. Your prayer response ("Lord Jesus, quiet my mind so that I may be present with you in my heart") was wonderful. I would like to make it a part of my daily contemplation. Thank you.

Thanks Roy. I'm happy to know that this will be a help in your prayer life. With Jesus, we learn to expect the unexpected and so we need to recall his presence every day. The power of Jesus is greatest in us when we are weak in ourselves. Peace to you.

There is nothing like the presence of Jesus as we keep our eyes fixed on Him. (Hebrews 12:2)
Thanks for the post.

In him we endure suffering so that we can share his love with people who are in need of bread. May God bless the work of your hands, Greg.

Sometimes the interruptions are what Jesus wants you to deal with as Peter and John on the way into the temple who met the beggar and said, "Silver and Gold have I none but such as I have give I thee...In the name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk"
They were on their way to worship and Jesus interrupted them to Worship his way and heal a beggar. I am thankful for this interruption of reading your thoughts tonight and continue to pray for you as I have since Lisa sat next to our growing family in worship around twenty years ago.

Hi Cora, thanks for your friendship and your prayers. You are so right that sometimes the interruption is a gift of opportunity sent from God. In the practice of contemplation, the disciple must learn how to discern between distraction and revelation. Consistent experience in the presence of God gives us greater sensitivity to his movement. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Many blessings to you and your wonderful family.
