ROCK THE BOAT - By Lisa Are Wulf

Spiritual Growth Rock the Boat

What feels better - rowing your boat in clear, calm water with loved ones on a refreshing outing? Or being thrown off the boat all alone in cold, choppy water with no rescue in sight? Hmmm...I'll bet you would choose number one. Who wouldn't?

When we have equilibrium in our lives, all is well and the road is smooth. But when disequilibrium strikes, we're disoriented, scared and lost. It feels lousy, but from a Christian perspective, it's a good place to be. That's because it not only gives us room for growth but also the incentive to reach up and grab God's hand.

My own personal rowboat has been severely rocked over the years and the disequilibrium was painfully unsettling. But without it, my spiritual path would be shallow indeed. And what about you? Whether you stood up in your boat and capsized it yourself or somebody threw you overboard, what's your disequilibrium story?
