TOUCH WITH GOD - By Calvin Wulf

Spiritual Life

When we touch creation with God, we experience our Creator. Our sense of touch is a channel for knowing the presence and activity of God. The soil, the rocks, the trees and all creation have the feel of the One who made them. Even human life was formed from the earth.

Early Celtic Christians grasped the reality that God is revealed in all creation. I recently enjoyed this same heavenly experience on a mini-retreat. The pine bough was soft on my cheek but to my surprise the oak leaves were scratchy. One stone was cool and smooth while another was gritty and rough. Those sensations helped me recall ways I have experienced the touch of the Lord on my life.

"Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the Lord. God gave us the sense of touch, at least in part, to experience his presence and activity in our lives. So why not go out and touch creation with God?

    Dear Friends,
Sometimes I think that touch is the most direct form of communication. To hold a rock would be to sense its being, measure its heart beat, know its importance, and to offset your warmth. Just like in the Sistine Chapel, God extends his hand to those who reach out, never quite touching, yet pinpointing the centre of your soul like a guiding thread that will soon attract the thunder of eternal life...
    God bless. Jolanta

      Dear Jolanta,
I like the spiritual sensitivity evident in your comment. The sensuality of touch is only carnal for those who walk in the flesh. Those who walk in the Spirit are blessed to touch and to be touched and they know the heart of God. Thank you for expressing your wonderful comment.
      Peace,
      Calvin
