THE SAFE MIDDLE - by Lisa Are Wulf

Christian Living

When it comes to your Christian faith - where do you stand? No, I'm not asking you to rattle off your doctrinal position. I don't really even care what denomination you subscribe to. No, I'm asking how you live out your beliefs. Where do you stand?

A remark at a recent seminar grabbed my attention. Too many of us are content to live in the "safe middle." We believe and belong but we don't actually have to DO anything. We just sign our names on the dotted line as Christians. Then we can safely hide. Nothing is required of us - nothing is necessary. We can just smile and be happy.

But Jesus didn't stay in the safe middle. Neither did the holy people of the past. Sometimes they walked a difficult path. Their lives were often filled with sacrifice - but also great joy. In short, they were truly living for God.

Are you in the safe middle?

Praise the Lord! I think people are afraid of not being in the middle because if they truly serve Jesus as those of the past - they are afraid of ending up just like those people - dying for their faith. When it comes down to it...we need to choose either we serve Jesus or we do not - for being the middle man means you are lukewarm...which is worse than being hot or cold...we have to stand in Jesus and move according to His word in our lives - even unto death for our hope is not in this world but in Jesus. I stand for the Lord and I will continue to stand - my prayer is that more sisters and brothers hear the word of the Lord and stand stronger in Him so that they do not have eternal death but eternal life in Jesus! AMEN! Awesome blog my sister - awesome!

      Hi There -

Thanks so much for your comment. I think you're right that people are afraid to be away from the middle because they might end up like some of the early Christians. But, however difficult that is, the lives of those people served to significantly advance the faith.

When we follow Christ, we really have no idea where he will take us or what will happen. But that's really his business - not ours. Our job is to just follow him wherever that may take us.

Thanks again for writing. I sure appreciate it.

Great post. Jesus did turn tables over, and raise his voice and took a stand. He rocked the boat and walked on the water and we can't do that hovering together in the middle. Well said and good timing. Go Lisa!!!!!

      Hi Erin -

Thanks so much for your comments. I love your examples from Christ's own life. He certainly didn't stay safe in the middle. So why should we?

Hope you're having a great day.

      Lisa
