Spiritual Journey - Living the Wounds

Henri Nouwen has been hailed as a 'wounded healer.' Indeed, he even wrote a book by that name. But how many of us also bear that title? And how many of us actually live through our wounds to help others?

These days we run away from our wounds. We put them as far out of sight as possible, even as we present a happy face to the world. We lock our hurt and fractured history in a small, dingy room, never to be opened again. But are we making a mistake?

When we can honestly speak with another about the pain in our lives, we open a door for God's grace. When we can live into our wounds to help heal someone else, we are reflecting Christ. When we can step out, as I did once as a City Councilwoman sharing my story of domestic abuse with other survivors, we restore our souls to God's love.

What about you?
