WHISPERING PRAYER by Calvin Wulf
Christian Prayer~

Prayer is a whisper into the attentive ear of Jesus. Quietly, I say his name and he meets me in full embrace. I feel his tender warmth envelope me. "His arms are rods of gold set with chrysolite. His body is like polished ivory decorated with sapphires. (Song of Solomon 5:14 NIV)" I surrender to the overwhelming love of God.
Prayer is a deep longing for my beloved Jesus. My soul aches when I cannot sense his presence. He is the lover of my soul and my greatest desire.
Jesus is the Bridegroom delighting over his bride. The Church is the Bride of Christ. We are one body with him as a husband and wife are one flesh. I yield my life and my very flesh to the Bridegroom. I tell him of my love in whispering prayer. I know that I am beloved in the heart of God. Such are my divine encounters with the beloved Christ. Amen.

I can really feel your emotion here...Truthfully I have never ever felt such intimate longings for God...I used to be repelled by the imagery of bride-groom relating to our relationship with Jesus...I was always very connected to the idea of God as father...but I feel disappointed with that ideology and experience personally these days too.
I'm in BIG trouble aren't I?

Joy, I see no real trouble. Your faith may be wondering out in the wilderness right now. Your soul may be troubled, but not IN trouble. This entry is my experience, as a man, in how I approach intimacy with God. It is simply where I am in my journey right now. Approaching God as father is just as intimate and tender. My guess is that something has shaken your relationship with God in whatever image has worked for you in the past. Remember that faith is a journey and so is your relationship with God. As my wife and I have agreed in our marriage, we always work things out. What are you working out right now in your relationship with God?
