My next series of blog entries are based on this passage from the Gospel of John. The first in this series will post next week.
I hope to share a few useful insights on the spiritual journey from these verses. So I post them here for your meditation and easy reference. It is my own paraphrase.
Perhaps together, we can discern a passage from life as usual into a more fruitful spiritual life from these verses. A new life, so to speak.
For now, I invite you to meditate, and to post your own reflections, on these words of Jesus.
A reading from John 12:23-26 (PAR)
23 Jesus told them, "The hour has come for the Son of Humanity to be glorified.
24 Let me tell you about this new reality, unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it will bear a harvest of fruit.
25 People who love life on earth life will lose it, while people who let go of life in this world will grow spiritually in the realm of eternal life.
26 Whoever serves me must have union with me. Where I am, my servant is with me. My Father will honor all people who serve me."

Those who love life on earth have not set their affections on heavenly things. Earthly things in the bible represents natural understanding, not spiritual truth, this is seen in John chapter 3 with Nicodemus. Those who love life in the natural are not walking after the spirit, but the natural. Therefore, they have no eternal life dwelling in them.
