SPIRITUAL PRIDE - by Calvin Wulf

Spiritual Struggles~

spiritual-struggles-spiritual-pride

I confess to you, dear sisters and brothers that I struggle with spiritual pride. There are times when I think my spiritual life is better than others around me. My knowledge and my experiences inflate my ego.

It's the same problem that Jesus exposed in his parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. The Pharisee stood in the front and looked at the Tax Collector with disdain while he prayed. The self-righteous Pharisee boasted about how he fasts twice a week and tithes one-tenth of his income.

My attitude is just as arrogant as the Pharisee when I start to think that I'm more spiritual than other people. I have confessed this to God and repented, but I still struggle. My attitude must become the same as the Tax Collector, "Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner." As Jesus said, "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God."
